Our Commercial Division has been actively engaged in acquisition, disposition, and leasing in the Savannah metropolitan area as well as markets throughout the East Coast. Emphasis on continuing education such as the CCIM program and computer technology has enabled the company to maintain a leadership presence among colleagues, associates, and principals in the major markets throughout the country.
Our company has been involved in the acquisition and disposition of numerous office buildings in our central business district, as well as industrial warehouses. Our firm acquired over 186 un-restored apartment units in our city's Historic District for Savannah Landmarks Rehabilitation Project, Inc. for restoration and reuse. Lending institutions as well as limited partnerships have employed our services to list and sell well over 800 apartment units in our suburban district.
In December of 1980, we were involved in the sale and purchase of the former Candler Hospital complex. This was a hospital complex consisting of five buildings plus a converted thirteen story apartment building which was acquired for their temporary expansion. The property was purchased along with the obstetrical wing, Telfair Hospital, which was located in a separate free-standing historic property. Following the acquisition of the complex by an Atlanta developer, David Byck Realty was involved in the leasing and subsequent restoration of Telfair Hospital as well as the final re-sale of the Telfair unit which was converted into 45 units of Section 8 housing. The major complex, consisting of approximately 96,000 square feet of space located in the heart of Savannah's desirable historic area, is currently leased to a state mental health facility. An additional 28,000 square foot facility was constructed to accommodate the mental health facility's expansion needs in 1982.
